Cavtat
About Cavtat: Cavtat history can be traced to the earliest times - times of ancient Greece.
Cavtat as a Greek colony at that time was called Epidaurum.

In 228 BC Cavtat passes into the hands of the Roman Empire and became a Roman colony.

Several centuries later Slavs begin to penetrate into these areas .
Already in 614. settlers founded Ragusa (Dubrovnik), just a few miles to the north west.
Dubrovnik Republic became the dominant force in this area and bought Cavtat in 1426.

With the establishment of the government of the Republic of Dubrovnik, Cavtat became the second most important center in the Republic.

Cavtat is today the world-famous tourist destination with many tourist amenities.
The proximity of Dubrovnik (19 km) and the location itself ensures that Cavtat is very easily reached.
Čilipi Airport is located nearby (5 km) and one can also travel from Dubrovnik to Cavtat by regular boat lines.

Cavtat offers lots of sightseeing. Be sure to visit the house of Vlaho Bukovac which is today a museum of art and a recognition to one of the most important Croatian painters.
On the waterfront you will find Rector's Palace, the throne of the former Duke of Dubrovnik.

While walking down the streets of Cavtat you will also find a large number of old palaces and residences. Their owners were mostly wealthy and famous sailors from Cavtat.

Among the prominent people from Cavtat, we must highlight Frano Supilo - Croatian politician who advocated the unification of Dalmatia with the Croatian.
