About Komin: Komin is a picturesque small town along the right bank of the Neretva River. It is a short distance from the nearby larger centers, just a few kilometers away from Metković, Ploče and Opuzen.
Considering other places in Croatia Komin is a relatively new founded settlement.
For the first time the location is mentioned in the 17th century, but the real settling takes place in early 18th century.
Residents mostly came from South Herzegovina.
When Komin was established it developed as two villages - Upper and Lower Komin. The boundary between the two villages was specific, but over the years it joined into one larger settlement. Today the train station is built upon its exact historic delimitation.
Throughout its history the inhabitants of Komin were well-known pirates who used their small (but fast) ships and often clashed with the Venetian forces.
Komin's population is today mainly engaged in farming and fruit-growing. Almost all types of fruit grow on the fertile soil of the Neretva river.
Fertile soil in Komin is obtained by drying up the lake Modrič at the mouth of the river Neretva.
In Komin today there also operate several associations such as the well-known Komin brass band, sports club Guasar (Pirate), Komin majorettes and others.
Nearby, at the mouth of the Neretva river, there is a nature reserve park Parila. In the reserve there are protected animals, such as local eel and foxes.
