About Makarska: Area of Makarska was already mentioned in the ancient times as a settlement Inariona.

During its long history Makarska was ruled by virtually all of the prominent rulers in this region, thus it was a part of the famous naval force of Neretva principality, and later Venice. In later centuries, Makarska was also ruled by France and Austria.
