Mali Lošinj
About Mali Lošinj: Mali Lošinj is a city located in the southern part of the island of Lošinj.
The town consists of several smaller settlements that make up the whole.

Mali Lošinj was once the most powerful merchant fleet in Croatia as well as in the Adriatic sea - surpassing even Venice and Trieste. Accordingly it should be noted that in 1868. there were as much as 11 operating shipyards on the island.

Unfortunately the dominance of Lošinj begins to decline rapidly after the invention of steam engine.

At the time Lošinj shared a tragic fate of many Croatian shipyard cities that have not restructured themselves to the production of steam ships.
But on the bright side, it is the very decline of industry that allowed Lošinj to remain one of the most beautiful islands on the Adriatic which is still graced by the natural beauty.

While visiting Lošinj we strongly recommend a visit to the park-forests "Pod Javori" and "Čikat. These locations provide the insight into the glorious naval history of the town and the island. Sailors brought exotic plants from distant parts of the world and here they planted them as memories to their distant travels.

Also one of the most important sites is the ancient City-Museum called Osor. According to archaeological data Osor is almost 4000 years old.

Lošinj was already highlighted as an important tourist destination at the time of Austro Hungary. At that time it was recognized as a top destination for health tourism. Even back then the aristocracy knew then that the island of Lošinj and its vegetation and climate are ideal for all those who value highly of their health. Thus numerous villas and stylish resorts were built at the time.

Lošinj still remains dedicated to this highly prestigious title, today many hotels offer exclusive spa center and swimming pools which are filled with nurturing and relaxing heated sea water.

With the relaxation, which is offered in abundance, Lošinj is the perfect choice for those seeking an active vacation. The whole island is covered with hiking trails that lead through the natural beauty.

While walking across Lošinj do not forget to look up to the sky because it is told that Lošinj has one of the clearest and most beautiful starry nights you can find. Precisely because of that fact it is that known astronomer and historian Spiridon Gopčević already in the 19-th century constructed his observatory "Manora" on the island.

Sea that surrounds the island of Lošinj is known for its purity and magnificent blue color, this fact is confirmed by a number of dolphins which you will surely notice as they enjoy their merry dance through these beautiful waters.
